Job summary

SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technician - Extractive Metallurgy in our Canada operations. The role involves conducting a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials, applying an applied approach in laboratory or pilot plant settings.

You will work with data, prepare reports, handle samples, calibrate equipment, and maintain safety and accuracy. A science-related post-secondary diploma and 1–3 years of lab experience are required;

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma (3-year) in a science-related program is required.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory experience is required.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tests and analyses on base and precious metal ores, minerals and materials.
  • Apply an applied approach in laboratory or pilot plant operations.
  • Design, develop, test, install and operate equipment and systems.
  • Conduct applied research and experimental testing.
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.

Laboratory Technician - Extractive Metallurgy

  • Compensation: CAD 20 - CAD 22 - hourly

This position will conduct a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.

  • Use an applied approach in performing moderate technological functions within laboratory or pilot plant operations.
  • Design, develop, test, install and operates equipment and systems.
  • Conduct applied research and experimental testing.
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
  • Education: A post‑secondary education (three‑year diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, etc.) is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Incumbents must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven effective time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and to balance conflicting demands of high volume versus quality of results.

Compensation:$20.50 to $22.50 per hour / 40 hours per week.
