Job summary

A leading testing, inspection, and certification company is seeking a laboratory technician to conduct testing on agricultural samples in Saskatoon. The ideal candidate will have a post-secondary education in a science-related field and 1-3 years of experience in a laboratory setting. Responsibilities include sample preparation, conducting various tests, and maintaining instruments. The position offers a contract with a salary of $18 per hour.

Job description

This position will conduct laboratory testing on agricultural (grain, feed, pulse) samples.

  • Sample log in and preparation, including grinding of samples.
  • Conduct required testing on agricultural samples, such as moisture, protein, falling number, dockage, or other tests as assigned by the Lab Manager or Departmental Supervisor, using various instruments (NIR, ELISA, etc.) available in the laboratory.
  • Perform and record routine and non-routine instrument maintenance (e.g., NIR).
  • Conduct balance calibrations, pipette verifications, and monitor temperatures of refrigerators and freezers.
  • Maintain and record instrument calibrations (e.g., NIR instrument).
  • Follow proper labelling and documentation procedures for solvents, standards, reagents, etc.
  • Familiarize with applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Adhere to company health and safety policies.
  • Provide accurate and timely results.

Qualifications :

  • A post-secondary education (degree and/or diploma) in a science-related program (Chemistry, Agriculture, Food Science, etc.) is required.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in an agricultural laboratory setting is required.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
