About us:

The Centre for Research and Applications in Fluidic Technologies (CRAFT) is a collaborative research center between the University of Toronto (UofT) and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). CRAFT aims to establish an internationally leading and nationally unique research enterprise, focused on device innovation related to (a) diagnostics for remote communities and critical care, (b) organ-on-a-chip technologies, and (c) biofabrication. A particular emphasis is on growing the engagement with industry and clinical partners.

Your opportunity:

The incumbent will join a world-class team dedicated to advancing the missions of the three CRAFT partners. As part of this role, they will work within the Tissue Foundry, providing technical and laboratory support in a BSL-2 environment. They will assist professors, students, and other users in conducting their work safely and effectively.

Your responsibilities will include:

-Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the process.
-Collecting experimental data, verifying results and passing on findings.
-Setting-up lab/workshop according to research and/or course schedules.
-Providing detailed explanations and demonstrating procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols.
-Preparing, assembling and setting-up material, equipment and supplies used in teaching and/or research labs.
-Applying established standards when cleaning lab, rooms and equipment.
-Ensuring the safe handling of specialized lab equipment and materials while operating within close proximity to others.
-Serving as a technical resource on laboratory protocols, and experimental procedures and equipment.


Essential Qualifications:

-Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering or acceptable combination of equivalent experience and education.
-Minimum two years recent and relevant experience in supporting/maintaining a bio laboratory, performing cell and tissue culture and other bio-related research experiments/procedures with excellent manual dexterity, and handling standard bio laboratory instruments.
-Related experience in handling laboratory chemicals and equipment safely, maintaining physical inventory, and accurately tracking assets using a laboratory database system.
-Experience with biological sample imaging acquisition and analysis software such as ZEN, NIS Elements, LASX and IMARIS.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the proven ability to explain technical research terminology/processes to a wide range of audience.
-Proven ability to organize, prioritize, manage and meet multiple competing deadlines with high flexibility, accuracy and attention to detail.
-Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the demonstrated capability to effectively work independently, within a team, and under direction.
-Proven ability to practice strong professionalism, tact, discretion, initiative, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
