Job summary

Shared Health, Cadham Provincial Laboratory in Winnipeg, is hiring a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) for a term maternity leave. The role involves preparation and distribution of media and other supplies in the Microbiology CPL, and reports to the Supervisor of the Media Section, Clinical Microbiology.

Candidates should have MLA program completion, 2 years lab experience, CSMLS preferred, and be proficient with Windows and PHIA knowledge.

Qualifications

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor of the Media Section, Clinical Microbiology, the employee is responsible for the preparation and distribution of Media and other supplies within CPL.

Experience

• Previous related experience preferred.
• Laboratory Information System experience preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

• Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) program from an accredited institution or equivalent education and a minimum of 2 years laboratory experience required.
• Workplace Health and Safety training preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

• Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred.

Qualifications And Skills

• Windows computer environment required.
• Knowledge and understanding of privacy legislation such as the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) required.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices in a laboratory setting required.
• Knowledge of medical and technical terms required.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.

Physical Requirements

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective agreement.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
