Role Description

We are seeking a meticulous and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our R&D and Quality Control team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the development and production of our high-performance paints and coatings by conducting routine testing, quality assurance checks, and assisting with new formulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine physical and chemical tests on raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products (e.g., viscosity, gloss, pH, density, hiding power)
  • Assist in the formulation and development of water-based and solvent-based paints and coatings
  • Document and analyze test results; maintain accurate lab records and reports
  • Support product improvements and new product development initiatives
  • Calibrate and maintain lab equipment to ensure reliable performance
  • Ensure all lab procedures follow company protocols and safety regulations
  • Collaborate with production, R&D, and QA teams to troubleshoot and resolve formulation or performance issues
  • Manage lab inventory and ensure availability of necessary materials and reagents

Qualifications

Required:

  • DEC or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
  • 1 - 3 years of laboratory experience (preferably in paints, coatings, or chemical manufacturing)
  • Knowledge of ASTM testing methods and standard lab practices
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with data logging or lab management systems
  • Good communication skills in English and French

Assets:

  • Experience with color matching, tinting, or using spectrophotometers
  • Familiarity with resin systems, pigments, and additives in architectural paints
  • Understanding of environmental and safety regulations (WHMIS, SDS, etc.)
