Job summary

Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. in Fort McMurray is seeking a full-time, laboratory-based geotechnical technician to perform soil and concrete testing. You will conduct analyses, enter results in LIMS, calibrate equipment, and support QA/QC with accuracy and precision.

Qualifications

  • A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Sciences, Geotechnical Sciences, or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada and a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a laboratory environment with accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct geotechnical laboratory testing on soils and aggregates (proctors, sieve analysis, hydrometer, specific gravity).
  • Perform compressive strength testing on concrete per ASTM/CSA standards.
  • Enter data and generate worksheets using the LIMS system; input third-party results.
  • Calibrate lab machinery and perform preventative maintenance as required.
  • Work in a fast-paced setting with minimal supervision and maintain safety.

About the Role

Our projects are diverse and include geotechnical and civil engineering, QA/QC construction monitoring, drill monitoring, geo-environmental monitoring, site investigations, foundation inspections, and soil and concrete laboratory testing. Our work spans multiple industries, including open-pit mining environments and municipal infrastructure projects.

This position is a full-time, laboratory-based role located in our Fort McMurray lab, with the potential for occasional field work to support project and operational needs. Job Responsibilities

We are currently seeking individuals to perform geotechnical and materials laboratory testing. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting geotechnical laboratory testing on soils and aggregates, including proctors, sieve analysis, hydrometer testing, specific gravity, and Atterberg limits
  • Performing compressive strength testing on concrete materials in accordance with applicable ASTM and CSA standards
  • Entering laboratory sample information and generating worksheets using the LIMS system
  • Inputting third-party laboratory results as required
  • Submitting soil and concrete test results to the Quality Assurance Specialist
  • Calibrating laboratory equipment (Proctor machines, sieves, ovens, scales, and molds) and completing preventative maintenance as required
  • Working in a fast-paced environment while carrying out assignments with minimal supervision
Physical requirements include prolonged standing, repetitive movements, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Compensation

$27.00– $31.00 per hour, depending on experience.
