About this opportunity :

Reporting to the Team Lead of the HLU Lab, the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for conducting quality control testing on process and finished product samples, including oil, water, and gas. This role plays a key part in monitoring samples from incoming crude to final products, supporting both process optimization and facility performance. The Laboratory Technician will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring accurate, high-quality data is consistently provided to the operation.

This role is based in a dynamic, fast-paced laboratory setting where adaptability and attention to detail are key. The successful candidate must be comfortable working on their feet for extended periods and managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a physically active environment

Work Environment :

  • This position is located in Lloydminster, SK and requires the successful candidate to live in the area
  • This is a full-time employee position working a 12-hour rotating day shift schedule

What you’ll do :

  • Analyze water and gas samples using IC, ICP, GC, distillation apparatus (atmospheric and vacuum), KF titrators, and manual titration methods.
  • Perform analysis oil samples including distillations, MCRT, XRF, Antek analyzers.
  • Maintain a clean and organized lab, including inventory management, equipment cleaning, sample handling, and proper waste disposal.
  • Conduct gas chromatography analysis and test Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) in accordance with Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) specifications.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and calibrate lab instruments, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Follow and uphold all laboratory procedures, with ensuring adherence to Heath, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) standards.
  • Support software systems and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) configuration and needed.
  • Who you are :

    Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements :

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Chemical Technology Diploma, Chemical Engineering Technology Diploma, or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
  • Minimum 4 years petroleum lab experience
  • Certified technologist designation or equivalent. (ASET, SASTT) is considered an asset
  • Advanced method / instrumentation troubleshooting skills
  • Experience in software and LIMS configuration would be considered an asset
  • We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

    As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol / drug assessments

    For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate
