Laboratory Patient Service Center Specialist

Join McLaren Health Care as a Laboratory Patient Service Center Specialist.

Position Summary:

Responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Service Center, including opening and closing the center, registering patients, ordering tests, and handling specimens.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Perform specimen collection (blood and non-blood), ensuring proper patient preparation, labeling, handling, processing, transportation, and storage, following laboratory standards.
  2. Complete specimen handling, including centrifuging and aliquoting.
  3. Arrange specimen transport according to established procedures.
  4. Verify and process patient registration data and test orders in hospital and laboratory information systems, with understanding of insurance plans.
  5. Follow compliance policies, including presenting ABN of non-coverage before outpatient services.
  6. Obtain patient consent for treatment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified phlebotomy technician.
  • Completed approved phlebotomy training.
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
