Job summary

Imperial is seeking a Laboratory Experimentation & Testing Supervisor in Nanticoke, ON. This leadership role oversees lab technicians, supports annual planning, and drives operational excellence in safety, reliability and controls.

The incumbent applies extensive petroleum fuels analysis knowledge to optimize testing and quality. The position requires a Laboratory or Chemical Technologist diploma, strong instrumentation skills, and experience with petroleum fuels specifications and QA/QMS

Qualifications

  • Lab or chemical technologist diploma required.
  • Experience with petroleum fuels analysis and related standards.
  • Calibration and maintenance of analytical instruments expected.
  • Knowledge of safety risks in daily lab operations.
  • Proficiency with Excel and lab software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead QA laboratory operations safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate testing schedules and lab priorities with site teams.
  • Support annual lab planning and optimization initiatives.
  • Interface between site technical group and lab operations.
  • Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

What role you will play on our team

The Laboratory Experimentation & Testing Supervisor fulfills a general leadership role at the site and is the specific supervisory role for lab technicians. Also responsible for supporting the annual planning activities and assists with managing systems and work process to support Operational Excellence (Safety, Reliability and Controls) .

An incumbent must demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience related to petroleum fuels analysis.

What you will do
  • Shared responsibility with the Laboratory Second line Supervisor (SLS) for safe, environmentally sound and efficient operation of the QA Laboratory
  • Use all LPS tools to achieve nobody gets hurt for his/her direct reports
  • Support site managing systems and associated work processes for the Lab (01, CIMS, QP&G, GPQMS, AQUA, GRS, OIMS and Regulatory Compliance).
  • Ensures alignment between Lab and site priorities, assist in troubleshooting significant operational challenges by coordination interface for testing.
  • Interface between site Technical group and lab
  • Contact for lab building maintenance and repair
  • Establish prioritization of resources towards higher return opportunities through margin and opex improvement initiatives.
  • MAL for Laboratory; work with Lab SLS to develop annual Business Plan
  • Conduct the AMP for the lab and complete all associated activities
  • Assists with effective test schedules and testing efficiencies so that product quality and operational reliability is optimized.
  • Fulfill PADP and other HR expectations for direct reports.
  • Fully understand and communicate corporate policies and procedures to employees.
About you

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Laboratory or Chemical Technologist diploma
  • Analytical instrumentation skills including calibration and maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Training in statistics, including working knowledge of standard deviations, control limits, moving ranges and biases
  • Understanding/management of the safety risks inherent in daily laboratory operations
  • Knowledge of computer tools including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Petroleum fuels analytical experience
  • Understanding of petroleum fuel specifications
  • Experience with QSM corporate standards for quality performance, product certification and release
