Position Summary

This position is responsible for assisting instructors in the performance of their duties by performing a wide variety of duties including preparing and assisting with demonstrations, supervising students, monitoring lab/clinic operations, coordinating regular maintenance activities, and maintaining inventory of supplies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Prepares and assists instructors with demonstrations, assists with day-to-day operations, demonstrates use of equipment, maintains lab schedule, receives and returns lab equipment and supplies, supervises students, monitors activities, and invigilates student examinations.
  2. Organizes, monitors, and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
  3. Organizes and supervises monthly maintenance activities. Assists with monitoring equipment maintenance schedules and handling repairs.
  4. Ensures premises and equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion. Monitors collection of hazardous waste products.
  5. Maintains emergency kit and oxygen tank.
  6. Ensures all chemicals and materials are properly labelled in accordance with WCB and WHMIS legislation.
  7. Reviews and updates equipment manuals.
  8. Provides information regarding capital equipment.
  9. Collaborates with instructors to identify and address issues and concerns.
  10. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Completion of a 2-year Community College program in a relevant discipline and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted.
  • Dental Assisting: Current CDA registration and practicing license with the BC College of Oral Health Professions (BCCOHP).

  • Good communication skills and the ability to relay information/instruction clearly and concisely.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a considerable workload.
  • Knowledge of competencies and experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Ability to supervise student activities and promote a positive and respectful environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate use and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Ability to organize supplies and equipment for clinic sessions, prepare and assist instructors with demonstrations, and supervise and delegate student activities.
  • Current knowledge of infection control procedures.
  • Working knowledge of inventory management, stock control, and purchasing.
  • Pro-active problem solving approach.
  • Computer experience with proficiency in MS Office and email.
