Job Description

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Operations Manager of Microbiology Department in Shared Hospital Laboratory, you will be responsible for performing duties in the specimen receiving area. This will include planting all specimens to appropriate media and answering results request. As well, you will assist the Senior Technologist and Operations Manager with general duties in the Microbiology department.

Requirements

  • Michener Institute Certificate, or equivalent as a Laboratory Assistant, or Career Canada Certificate, or OSMT.
  • Preferred 6 months of experience in bacteriology with knowledge of media and different incubation times for set up in fully automated microbiology lab.
  • Preferred knowledge of setting up Maldi, Kirby Bauer and AST using instruments like Bruker and Phoenix.
  • Demonstrated problem recognition and problem solving-skills.
  • Demonstrated good organizational skills, ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Ability work independently or as a team member in a fast- paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrates values consistent with hospital Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community.
