As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients to preparing specimens for transportation. This role is vital in patient care and our operations, allowing you to see the difference you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part-Time Regular, Float
Schedule: Variable Shift
Additional requirements: This is a float position based out of Newton, covering areas including Morgan Creek and Peace Arch.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Greeting patients, requesting information, explaining specimen collection, and ensuring test protocols are followed.
  • Performing phlebotomies, connecting/disconnecting Holter monitors, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, and ECG tracings.
  • Collecting special tests such as drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and completing documentation.
  • Maintaining client relationships, responding to inquiries, and following up.
  • Entering patient demographics and requisition information accurately.
  • Preparing specimens for transportation and testing.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent experience in healthcare, including phlebotomy and IV therapy.
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Ability to relate effectively to patients and healthcare providers.
