Job summary

LifeLabs LP is seeking Mobile Laboratory Assistants to support on-site patient care across Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith and Port Alberni. You will collect specimens, perform phlebotomy, and coordinate visits with physicians and facilities.

This temporary full-time float role offers varied shifts and daily interaction with patients. Ideal candidates have a Laboratory Assistant program, a clean driving record, and strong communication skills while maintaining patient privacy and safety throughout

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and vehicle access.
• Satisfactory criminal reference check.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Excellent communication and ability to maintain patient privacy/confidentiality.
• Ability to plan routes and manage daily visits and schedules.

Responsibilities

• Organize daily schedule of visits to facilities and residences to collect specimens per physicians’ requests and plan routes.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Collect and deliver specimens to designated labs; prepare for transport to reference lab.
• Book patient appointments, obtain requested information, and explain specimen collection process.
• Liaise with doctors and facility staff regarding scheduling and procedures.

Job description

OurMobile Laboratory Assistantsplay an important part in on-site patient care in locations including private homes, commercial facilities, and long-term care facilities. This is an active and rewarding role that will let you build relationships with patients and see the difference that you make in their lives and healthcare outcomes.

Status:Temporary Full Time (Float)

Shifts: Various Shifts

Number of positions: 1

Additional requirements: The successful candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience, a valid Class 5 driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and must meet all applicable insurance requirements associated with their employment at LifeLabs.

This position will be Monday to Friday. Servicing Nanaimo, Duncan, Ladysmith and Port Alberni areas.
Start Date: ASAP

End Date:May 1, 2027 or return of incumbent.

Union: This is part of the BCGEU collective agreement

This vacancy is for an existing position.

Selected candidates are required to be fully vaccinated with Covid 19 vaccinations, and a booster shot for this role.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Organizing a daily schedule of visits to facilities and private residences to collect specimens as per physicians’ requests, and planning your route according to courier times, specimen integrity and required travel time.
• Performing phlebotomies, connecting/disconnecting Holter monitors, and performing ECG tracings.
• Collecting and delivering specimens to designated labs for testing. Accession, spin, separate and prepare for transport to reference lab as required.
• Booking patient appointments, requesting required information from patients, explaining the specimen collection process and ensuring patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Liaising with doctors and facility staff regarding patient problems, changes in scheduling, specimen collection procedures, and other matters.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle.
• Satisfactory criminal reference check.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of people.
