Job summary

LifeLabs LP is seeking Mobile Laboratory Assistants to support on-site patient care at facilities and private homes on the Sunshine Coast. The role involves visiting multiple sites, performing phlebotomies, Holter monitor connections, and ECG tracings while ensuring specimen integrity and timely transport.

You will coordinate appointments, communicate clearly with physicians and facility staff, and uphold patient privacy.

Qualifications

• Must have completed an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and vehicle access.
• Satisfactory criminal reference check.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse patient interactions.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and quick thinking.
• Ability to maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Organize a daily schedule of visits to facilities and private residences to collect specimens per physicians' requests; plan routes considering courier times, specimen integrity, and travel time.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Collect and deliver specimens to designated labs; perform accession, spin, and prep for transport to reference lab as required.
• Book patient appointments, gather required information, explain specimen collection process, and ensure adherence to test protocols.
• Liaise with doctors and facility staff regarding patient issues, scheduling changes, and collection procedures.

Job description

Mobile Laboratory Assistants play an important part in on-site patient care in locations including private homes, commercial facilities, and long-term care facilities. This is an active and rewarding role that will let you build relationships with patients and see the difference that you make in their lives and healthcare outcomes.

Status: Temporary Part Time

Shifts: Monday-Wednesday - Hours varying 0600-1500 based on operational needs.

Number of positions: 1

Additional requirements: The successful candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience, a valid Class 5 driver's license, a clear driver's abstract, and must meet all applicable insurance requirements associated with their employment at LifeLabs.

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: One Year Contract

Union: This is part of the BCGEU collective agreement

Selected candidates are required to be fully vaccinated with Covid 19 vaccinations, and a booster shot for this role.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Organizing a daily schedule of visits to facilities and private residences to collect specimens as per physicians' requests, and planning your route according to courier times, specimen integrity and required travel time.
• Performing phlebotomies, connecting/disconnecting Holter monitors, and performing ECG tracings.
• Collecting and delivering specimens to designated labs for testing. Accession, spin, separate and prepare for transport to reference lab as required.
• Booking patient appointments, requesting required information from patients, explaining the specimen collection process and ensuring patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Liaising with doctors and facility staff regarding patient problems, changes in scheduling, specimen collection procedures, and other matters.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and access to a vehicle.
• Satisfactory criminal reference check.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of people.
• Problem solving skills and the ability to think quickly on your feet.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
