Here are the details of the position :

Job Title :

Laboratory Assistant (LECO Operator)

Reports to : Geochemistry Manager

Basic Purpose :

The main function of this position is to perform routine and non-routine tasks related to the analysis of client samples using LECO and other analytical instruments.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Ensure fast and accurate processing of incoming samples in priority sequence.
  • Prepare samples for analysis including fusion, digestion, and volume duties.
  • Analyze samples using LECO and other analytical instruments.
  • Review and check data.
  • Perform and document quality checks at all stages of sample handling, halting production where necessary and reporting to supervisor immediately.
  • Operate, maintain, and ensure calibration records are kept for instruments according to written instructions.
  • Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures, and ISO standards applicable to the role.
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including PPE.
  • Perform other tasks / duties as required or assigned.

Skills and Knowledge :

  • Minimum some college or post-secondary education, preferably in Chemistry or Science.
  • Some laboratory experience and handling of chemicals is an asset.
  • Familiar with WHMIS.
  • Able to communicate in English, both oral and written.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Safely perform physically demanding tasks with repeated lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions :

  • High level of work production in a fast-paced lab environment.
  • Repetition of the same process may be involved.
  • Requires patience, tenacity, and persistence.
  • Flexible working hours, overtime, and shift work.
  • May involve long periods of standing.
  • Some lifting and carrying (up to 10kg).
  • Handling hazardous materials using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment.

The salary range for this role is $19-$20.51 per hour, varying by location and experience.
