The U of A Hospital seeks a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to support clinical laboratory services through specimen management and testing. This role requires completion of an accredited program, proficiency in laboratory skills, and the ability to work effectively within a team. Responsibilities include managing laboratory functions and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability are essential for success in this full-time position.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Required Qualifications :
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications :
Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry. Ability to safely and appropriately handle chemicals and solvents, some lifting (e.g. reagent waste containers, document storage boxes). Experience in inventory control, equipment maintenance and specimen handling. Recent experience in Epic. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional and courteous manner. Adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must have the ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate, clear and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in Toxicology and Trace Elements is strongly preferred. Experience in a Chemistry laboratory is preferred. Knowledge of the Epic Beaker laboratory information system is preferred. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry is preferred. Experience in inventory control, equipment maintenance and specimen handling are preferred.
