Job summary

Alberta Precision Labs is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to contribute to a busy clinical lab in Edmonton. You will perform specimen collection, processing and testing, while upholding safety and quality standards, and support colleagues in a collaborative, customer-focused environment.

The role requires completion of an accredited MLA program and an accredited urinalysis course; phlebotomy experience in the last two years is preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited Urinalysis course including theory and practical.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens from a wide range of patients using phlebotomy techniques.
• Handle, process, dispatch and test specimens with attention to quality control.
• Receive, sort and prepare specimens for transport to the lab.
• Assist in orientation and training of new staff and external clients.

Job description

The Misericordia Hospital Laboratory is looking to fill a Medical Laboratory Assistant I role where you, as the successful candidate, will have the opportunity to work both independently and as a member of our team where you are responsible for performing all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA I. With a customer service focused approach, you build productive and respectful customer relations and take responsibility for customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for collecting specimens from a wide range of patients using your macro and micro phlebotomy techniques, urinalysis, pregnancy and occult blood testing. Your strong attention to detail and time management skills will flourish as you receive and sort specimens into the lab and prepare them for transport as well as ensuring quality control and maintenance of lab equipment. You have an ability to encourage others and build positive, respectful, and collaborative working relationships while assisting in the orientation and training of new staff, coworkers, and external clients.
