Job summary

Humber River Health is seeking a part-time Laboratory Assistant Technician to join our Laboratory Services team at the Wilson Site. The role includes phlebotomy, central processing, ECGs, and potential cross-training in microbiology and histology duties.

The ideal candidate holds a Laboratory Assistant Technician Certificate with MLPAO or CSMLS/SCSLM certification and at least two years of phlebotomy experience across patient groups. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Laboratory Assistant Technician Certificate required.
• MLPAO and/or CSMLS/SCSLM certifications preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ phlebotomy experience with adults, children and neonates.
• Experience in microbiology planting is an asset.
• ECG experience is an asset.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or in a team.
• Strong attendance and reliability; Equity, Diversity and Inclusion awareness is an asset.

Join our Laboratory Services team here at Humber River Health and help to delivery timely and accurate test results and improve patient outcomes.

Our Laboratory Services Department uses state of the art equipment, technology and processes to collect and test clinical specimens in order to obtain information about the health of our patients so that our inter-professional teams can diagnose, treat and prevent disease.

Our Laboratory Assistants (Laboratory Technician III) perform blood collection, prepare specimens and maintain the facilities and equipment. Are you a Laboratory Assistant (Laboratory Technician III) with 2 years of experience in performing phlebotomy of adults, children and neonates? Are you passionate about making patients comfortable while performing procedures?

Employment Status: Permanent Part Time

Hours of Work: 8 hour rotating shifts on weekdays, evenings and/or weekends including commitment of hours as per the Collective Agreement - subject to change as per operational needs and Article HRH 2 – Management Rights

Hourly Rate: $32.59 - $37.26

Position Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy, central processing and ECGs.

• Can be assigned /trained in other Laboratory Disciplines


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Association of Ontario (MLPAO) and/or Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS/SCSLM) certification

• Experience in performing ECG’s an asset.


• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


• Excellent customer service skills.


• Ability to work alone or in a team.


• Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
