Join us during an exciting growth phase, support various initiatives, innovations, and business development opportunities. We are currently seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Campbell River and Courtenay, BC.

This role involves managing the specimen collection process, from greeting patients to preparing specimens for transportation. It’s vital in patient care and our operations, allowing you to see the impact of your work.

This is a Part-Time Regular Float position with day shifts, offering the opportunity to work additional shifts at other LifeLabs locations. The minimum hours are 20 per week, up to 37.5 hours, across various locations in the Campbell River and Courtenay regions.

In this role, you will:

  1. Greet patients, gather necessary information, explain the collection process, and ensure test protocols are followed.
  2. Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, conduct 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, and perform ECG tracings.
  3. Handle special test collections such as drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, completing all documentation.
  4. Maintain client relationships by responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
  5. Enter patient data accurately, including demographics and requisition information.
  6. Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

The ideal candidate will excel in customer service, relate well to patients even under stress, and demonstrate empathy, flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. Requirements include:

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent healthcare experience, including phlebotomy and IV therapy (e.g., nurses, infusion therapists, cardiac technologists).
  • ECG training or experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Maintaining strict patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Ability to effectively interact with patients and healthcare providers.

Hiring Range: $25.27 - $30.05

The final salary will be based on experience, education, market conditions, and internal equity.
