The position of Laboratory Analyst for the Alberta Centre for Toxicology (ACFT) reports to the Laboratory Manager, and with accountabilities from both the Manager and the Director.
The Alberta Centre for Toxicology (ACFT) is a public health laboratory. It is under the direction of Health Surveillance, Alberta Health and administered by the University of Calgary under the jurisdiction of the Cumming School of Medicine. The position of Laboratory Analyst Phase 1 reports to the Laboratory Manager and to the Director. Samples include environmental samples (water and air samples) and biological samples (blood and urine). The workload varies according to the number of samples received and the number of ODP samples that test positive, necessitating additional testing and shift rotation between day and evening shifts.
Work requires possible exposure to dangerous materials and/or situations and is conducted in an area with constant background noise from instruments and gas tanks pressure relief valves.
