Job Title : Analyst 1

Reports to : Laboratory Manager / Laboratory Supervisor

Department : Inorganics

Location : Burnaby, B.C.

Basic Purpose :

  • Results oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Perform analyses and complex sample preparation proficiently.
  • Gain full knowledge with respect to performing analytical procedures and related quality control techniques.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP’s) when conducting work :
  • Perform sample preparation and procedures prior to analysis.
  • Perform some basic testing procedures.
  • Perform basic instrument maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and diagnostics.
  • Identify non-routine samples and seek guidance on procedures for handling.
  • Prepare standards and reagents and monitor supplies.
  • Ensure high accuracy in sample preparation and analysis.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Assess and correct problems according to SOP and ISO 17025 standards.
  • Meet quality and turnaround time (TAT) specifications.
  • Document deviations and report to the Supervisor.
  • Employ proper laboratory techniques to prevent mislabeling and cross contamination.
  • Participate in lab and safety meetings, audits, and maintain training records.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies :

  • B.Sc. or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of sample handling, quality assurance, and safety practices.
  • Manual dexterity, record keeping, problem solving skills.
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, good communication, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

Physical and Environmental Conditions :

  • Fast-paced environment, repetitive tasks, patience required.
  • Flexible hours, overtime, shift work.
  • Long periods of standing, lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Handling hazardous materials with safety precautions.
