Job summary

A leading analytical laboratory is seeking a lab technician in Montreal for testing asbestos content in various samples. Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences and ideally have some laboratory experience or coursework in microscopy techniques. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Life Science required.
• Some laboratory experience in academic or commercial setting is a plus.
• Light microscopy and optical mineralogy training is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Preparation and analysis of bulk, air, water, and soil for asbestos content.
• Record data and perform clerical tasks including data entry and report handling.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment as necessary.

Job description

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

Preparation and analysis of bulk, air, water, and soil for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and / or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures

Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material

Record data in a specified manner

Some clerical work may be involved including login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones

Maintain and troubleshoot equipment when needed

Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance / Quality Control manual

Requirements :

Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Science : Geology, Microbiology, Biology, Environmental Science, and / or Chemistry background is required

Light microscopy, optical mineralogy / petrographic microscope training a plus

Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus

One to two years of asbestos PLM / TEM / PCM experience is a plus, but not required

Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis

Work independently and with a team

Able to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignments

Good communication, computer, typing, and organizational skills
