Laboratory Analyst 1 - Horizon - 4 Month Contract

Location: Fort McMurray, AB

Our laboratory is located on a client site situated north of Fort McMurray.

Job Overview and Responsibilities:
Successful candidate will be result oriented to produce high quality defensible analytical data, safely and on time by following applicable Standard Operating Procedures. Perform analyses and complex sample preparation proficiently. Gain full knowledge with respect to performing analytical procedures and related quality control techniques.

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

1. Receive samples, perform sample preparation and laboratory analysis according to approved Standard Operating Procedures and in concert with safety regulations; includes performing all relevant Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities required by the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
2. Deliver high quality analytical data accurately and on time.
3. Utilize a wide variety of instruments such as ICP, GC, TOC, sulphur, nitrogen, and extraction experiments, etc.
4. Efficiently handle glassware equipment for extractions, refluxes and preparation.
5. Troubleshoot and maintain analytical equipment.
6. Ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas’s policies, certifications and accreditations.
7. Actively participate in Bureau Veritas’s Health and Safety Program (meetings, near miss and incident reporting, hazard assessment).
8. Build and maintain good working relationship with our client.

Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:

1. Must be currently enrolled in a Chemistry/Biotechnology or other Science related college/university program.
2. Demonstrated success in position of a Laboratory Technician or Analyst is an asset.
3. Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) would be an asset.
4. Knowledge of and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices to handle hazardous materials by taking the necessary precautions.
5. Excellent manual dexterity, record keeping, calculations and problem solving abilities.
6. Flexible to perform varying duties to accommodate changing priorities.
7. Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills.
8. Strong computer skills.
9. Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
10. Works both independently and as part of a team.

Schedule:

1. Shift work: 12 hour shifts.
2. The shift rotation is: 7 on/ 7 off rotating days/nights.
3. Local Fort McMurray Applicants: transportation to/from site provided.
4. Applicants living in Edmonton & Calgary: Qualify for a fly in/fly out schedule and camp accommodation.
5. A pre access drug and alcohol screening will be required.
