As a Laboratory Analyst, you’llplay a vital role in ensuring water and wastewater quality through precise sample collection, analysis, and reporting. You will be responsible for receiving and logging samples into our Laboratory Management Systems (HACH WIMS, LabCal), analyzing wastewater samples, and maintaining a clean, safe laboratory environment.

Reporting to the Manager, Technical and Quality Assurance, and working closely with the Lead Hand Laboratory and fellow Analysts, you’re contributing to the success of the lab by performing a variety of essential tasks that support water and wastewater quality assurance.

What you’d be responsible for

Your key accountabilities include but are not limited to :

Sample Handling & Analysis

  • Analyzing wastewater samplesfor a range of analytical parameters to ensure compliance and quality.
  • Receiving and logging samplesinto the HACH Water Information Management System (WIMS) with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Participating in creek sampling activitiesas assigned to support field-based monitoring efforts.

Lab Operations & Maintenance

  • Performing daily and weekend lab dutiesas directed by the Lead Hand, within the scope set by the Manager, Technical and Quality Assurance.
  • Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentsto ensure reliable performance.
  • Preparing stock solutions, reagents, and quality control materialsfor assigned analyses.
  • Supporting otherlab staffwith equipment preparation, errands, and data entry as needed.
  • Housekeeping & Safety

  • Maintaining a clean and organized lab environment, including washing glassware, cleaning benches, and storing supplies.
  • Following all laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)and EPCOR policies, including safety, ethics, and respectful workplace guidelines.
  • Wearing appropriate PPE, including a half-mask respirator when required, and adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Quality Assurance

  • Identifying issuesthat impact operational performance.
  • Ensuring data meets quality control standards.
  • Taking corrective actionswhen necessary to maintain data integrity.

    Education & Experience :

  • A diplomaor degreein Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Studies, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • 2+ yearshands-onlaboratory experience, ideally in water or wastewater analysis.
  • Technical & Analytical Skills :

  • Demonstrate strong research and problem-solving abilities.
  • UseMicrosoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and data tools with confidence.
  • NavigateLaboratory Information Management Systems such as HACH WIMS and LabCal.
  • Applyquality control principles with precision and consistency.
  • Communication & Teamwork :

  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, while collaboratingeffectively in a diverse, team-oriented environment.
  • Takinginitiative and ownership of your work while being open to feedback and direction.
  • Safety & Compliance

  • An advocatefor safety and compliance with all EPCOR policies and procedures.
  • Can weara half-mask respirator when required and work safely with wastewater and industrial samples.
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing is required.
  • Physical & Licensing Requirements

  • Able to meet the physical demands and activities inherent to the work performed (able to stand for up to 75% of the day; able to carry up to 20kg / 45lbs).
  • A valid Canadian Class 5 driver’s license (non-GDL) with a clean abstract (6 or fewer demerits).
  • Able to qualifyfor and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit (5-year commercial abstract required).
