About The Position
Perform technical tasks using standard point counting procedures. Review and interpret data as required to ensure accuracy of analysis.
Other duties include slide preparation and numerous computer and photo imaging duties. QEMSCAN: Setting up for various analysis modes (PMA, BMA, TMS) using standard procedures as required by clients. XRD: Setup using standard procedures. Perform regular calibration checks.
Specific Responsibilities
- Supervised training in preparation of samples for all kinds of analysis in the Mineralogy lab;
- Supervised training in manual modal point counting (copper, lead, zinc species), and running samples for XRD analysis, and QEMSCAN setup and sample exchange;
- Operate and perform maintenance on QEMSCAN, XRD, microscopes, sample preparation equipment;
- Identify & correct QC related problems by ensuring the quality of the mineralogy data meets ALS standards;
- Evaluate data and perform data entry using QEMSCAN, XRD and Clemex software;
- Use Microsoft Excel and Word to analyze data from the test work;
- Test and evaluate calibration standards;
- Ensure samples for project work assigned by Manager, Lead Hand or Designate are accounted for in the lab;
- Prioritize workloads according to daily stats and turnaround commitments;
- Maintain and organize inventory of calibration standards, production logs and equipment records;
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns to the Supervisor or Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Analytical and mechanical skills;
- Quality focused individual;
- Organized, highly motivated, detail oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team;
- Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
- Basic MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Required Qualifications
- Recognized Diploma or Degree in Sciences required;
- Minimum of 6 months laboratory work experience in mineralogy, instrumentation or a related field preferred.
Physical Demands
- Stand for 8 hours per day. Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks;
- Able to lift filled 20 litre containers (45 lb)
