Job description

About the role

On-site | Casual

This position is responsible for the determination of a wide range of inorganic parameters in water samples and soil extracts employing a variety of analytical instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare reagents, calibration and quality control standards, duplicates and spikes;
  • Instrument calibration, troubleshooting and maintenance;
  • Main operator of ICP MS, OES and Mercury analyzer;
  • Filtration of samples for various tests;
  • Glassware - preparation and cleaning;
  • Organise workload to meet Turn Around Times (TAT’s);
  • Query a work list of samples, creating work groups or digestion batches, printing lists of comparison data, and data transfer into LIMS;
  • Calibration and use of pipettes;
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
  • Follow safety requirements in Safety Manual and communicate all safety concerns or incidents to Safety Rep;
  • Follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements, deviations must be approved by Supervisor or Manager;
  • Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
  • Other duties as assigned by Department Supervisor or Team Leader.

About you:

  • Organized and detail-oriented;
  • Highly motivated with a cheerful attitude and strong work ethic;
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team;
  • Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of diploma or degree in chemistry or related field;
  • Experience with any of the following instrumentation and chemistries: ICP, continuous-flow analyzers, autotitrators, spectrophotometer as well as Residue and BOD/COD chemistries.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to stand for a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Able to lift 30 lbs and carry for short distances;
  • Able to climb stairs;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
