Job summary

Carlson Construction Group is seeking an experienced Labour Relations Specialist to provide strategic and hands-on support to General Managers and project teams across our diverse businesses.

You will interpret and administer collective agreements, handle workplace investigations, oversee grievance management, and reinforce positive labour relations on active projects throughout the Lower Mainland and surrounding regions.

Qualifications

• This role requires a degree or diploma in Labour/Industrial Relations or a related field.
• Minimum 5+ years of labour relations experience, preferably in construction or unionized settings.
• Strong ability to interpret collective agreements and advise leaders on complex issues.
• Experience handling grievances, investigations, and labour‑management relationships.
• Solid knowledge of employment legislation and discretion in sensitive matters.

Carlson Construction Group is seeking an experienced and proactive Labour Relations Specialist to join our growing team.

Reporting to senior leadership and partnering closely with the General Managers of our diverse group of companies, this role will serve as a trusted advisor on labour and employee relations matters across multiple construction, fabrication, marine, industrial, and heavy civil businesses.

This is an exciting opportunity for a labour relations professional who enjoys working directly with operational leaders, building strong relationships with union partners, resolving complex workplace issues, and supporting a dynamic workforce across various project locations.

The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering positive labour-management relationships while ensuring compliance with collective agreements, labour legislation, and company policies.

The Opportunity

As the Labour Relations Specialist, you will provide strategic and hands‑on support to General Managers, Project Managers, and operational leaders across the Carlson Group.

You will act as a trusted resource for labour relations matters, workplace investigations, grievance management, collective agreement interpretation, and workforce engagement initiatives. This position requires someone who is comfortable spending time in the field, meeting with project teams, and visiting active construction sites throughout the Lower Mainland and surrounding regions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide labour relations guidance and support to General Managers and operational leaders across multiple subsidiaries.

• Assist with grievance management, investigations, and dispute resolution.

Labour Relations & Collective Agreement Administration

• Provide labour relations guidance and support to General Managers and operational leaders across multiple subsidiaries.
• Interpret and administer collective agreements, labour policies, and workplace procedures.
• Act as a liaison between management and union representatives.
• Support labour‑management meetings and relationship‑building initiatives.
• Assist with grievance management, investigations, and dispute resolution.
• Ensure compliance with collective agreements, employment legislation, and company policies.
• Monitor labour relations trends and proactively identify potential risks and opportunities.

Employee & Union Relations

• Build positive and productive relationships with employees, union representatives, project teams, and leadership.
• Support conflict resolution and workplace issue management.
• Conduct workplace investigations and fact‑finding exercises as required.
• Provide coaching and guidance to managers on labour and employee relations matters.
• Promote respectful workplace practices and foster positive employee engagement.

Operational Support

• Partner with General Managers on workforce planning and labour relations strategies.
• Participate in workforce meetings, project kickoffs, and labour‑management discussions.
• Support organizational initiatives related to labour relations, retention, recruitment, and employee engagement.
• Prepare reports, recommendations, and labour relations updates for leadership teams.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure company compliance with employment standards, labour legislation, collective agreements, and industry best practices.
• Support audits and reviews related to labour relations and workforce compliance.
• Maintain accurate and confidential labour relations documentation.
• Assist in developing policies, procedures, and labour relations programs.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or Diploma in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 5+ years of labour relations experience, preferably in construction, heavy civil, industrial, manufacturing, marine, energy, or unionized environments.
• Strong experience interpreting and administering collective agreements.
• Experience managing grievances, investigations, and labour‑management relationships.
• Sound understanding of employment legislation and labour relations principles.
• Experience advising leaders and managers on complex employee relations issues.
• CPHR designation or labour relations certification is considered an asset.

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per annum
