About The Role

As a Lawyer with experience in labor and employment, you will provide comprehensive legal advice to businesses and individuals on employment-related matters, including workplace policies, labor disputes, discrimination claims, wage and hour compliance, and employment contracts. This role requires strong litigation, negotiation, and advisory skills to help clients navigate complex labor laws and mitigate risks. Additionally, as an experienced data privacy lawyer, you will provide legal guidance on Canadian and Ontario data protection and privacy issues.

This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 2 days in the St. Thomas office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Represent clients in labor and employment disputes, including wrongful termination, workplace harassment, discrimination, and wage claims.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts, including commercial agreements, employment contracts, severance agreements, and workplace policies.
  • Handle matters related to union negotiations, collective bargaining, and labor relations.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and advise on compliance best practices.
  • Defend, mediate, and settle legal and litigation matters.
  • Stay updated on labor laws, industry trends, and legal precedents affecting employment practices.
  • Provide training and guidance to HR professionals and leadership on employment law compliance.
  • Provide legal guidance on Canadian and Ontario data protection and privacy matters.

What You Bring To The Team

  • J.D./LL.B. Degree from an accredited law school.
  • License: Admitted to practice law in Canada.
  • 5+ years of active legal practice post-graduation.
  • Expertise in Employment Law, Labour Law, and Privacy Law.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant local and federal laws and regulations.
  • Experience in labor and employment rules within the industry.
  • Litigation and dispute resolution experience.
  • Familiarity with alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration.
  • Experience representing employers and/or employees in union-related matters.
  • Experience in manufacturing or in-house legal roles is an asset.
  • Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and handle complex cases independently.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Experience with complex contracts and transactions.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Initiative, independent thinking, conflict resolution, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Professionalism, tact, and the ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • High integrity and commitment to professional development.
