Job summary

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (Carbonear General Hospital) is seeking a Laboratory Technologist I to rotate through Biochemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and, if required, Microbiology. The role performs routine and complex testing, phlebotomy when needed, and quality control with documentation.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, adherence to patient safety policies, and other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized (accredited) program with a diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or a degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
• Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Technologist national examination in the applicable field(s) of practice, as recognized in Canada, is required.
• Current and continuing registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
• A satisfactory record of work performance is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in Biochemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine and, if required, Microbiology.
• Perform phlebotomy when required and run Quality Control following established procedures with proper documentation.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and maintain documentation.
• Promote Patient Safety initiatives through strict application of NL Health Services Policies.
