Job description

The Lab Technician is responsible for pre-analytical and post-analytical work processes, including preparing analyzers and samples for testing, and storing and disposing of samples. The role involves supporting various departments by delivering and preparing specimens, preparing reagents, troubleshooting, performing maintenance, and managing specimens. Additionally, the Lab Technician provides input to Lab Ops Supervisors on team issues and opportunities for improvement.

This is a temporary full-time position in Burnaby, BC (BRL) until 12/31/2024. The role requires availability for morning, evening, and graveyard shifts, including weekdays and weekends, with flexible scheduling.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Ensuring specimens are prepared for testing according to established procedures, including visual quality assurance.
  2. Preparing reagents as per standard operating procedures, verifying reagent acceptability prior to patient result reporting.
  3. Loading analyzers with patient, validation, or QC samples under supervision of a certified/registered MLT.
  4. Handling specimens in and out of specimen managers, including disposal.
  5. Monitoring, replenishing, and ordering supplies for testing areas.
  6. Operating and maintaining pre-analytical and post-analytical equipment following SOPs.
  7. Maintaining laboratory glassware, including acid-washing as needed.
  8. Performing equipment maintenance and subsequent QC, approved by a certified/registered MLT.
  9. Participating in protocol reviews, regulatory audits, safety initiatives, and meetings.
  10. Resolving pending and overdue items in coordination with certified/registered MLTs.
  11. Collecting and sending out deionized water samples for testing.
  12. Entering data for department statistics and analyzer validations under supervision.
  13. Maintaining confidentiality of client information and adhering to safety and security policies, including WHMIS and environmental standards.
  14. Supporting process improvements and training team members.

Skills / Qualifications :

  1. Canadian degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), BMLSc, BSc Chemistry/Biochemistry, or BSc Microbiology; IEMLT experience preferred.
  2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  3. Intermediate computer skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel; EP Evaluator experience is an asset.
  4. Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  5. Good organizational skills and ability to work under high volume pressure.
  6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

This is an in-person role.

Hiring Range : $27.44 - $31.66

The final salary depends on experience, education, market conditions, and internal equity.
