Job summary

LifeLabs is seeking a Lab Patient Technician to support the specimen collection process from greeting patients to preparation for transport. The role requires flexibility across shifts and locations, with emphasis on patient privacy and accuracy in data entry.

The successful candidate will perform phlebotomies, ECG tracings, and special test collections, while maintaining strong patient relationships and documentation standard. Union and casual status noted.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills and patient service orientation.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and collect required information while explaining the specimen collection process.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Handle special test collections and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships and respond to inquiries.
• Enter patient demographics and requisition information into the system.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

As aLab Patient Technician,you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Casual

Shifts: 6 AM - 7 PM

Additional notes: The successful candidate must be available to work Monday to Friday between the hours of 6:30 am - 6:30 pm and Saturday 7:00 - 3:00. Please note that flexibility in availability is essential for this role and your shift location can change based on operational needs.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
