LifeLabs in Welland seeks a Lab Patient Technician to support specimen collection across multiple Patient Service Centres in Welland, Port Colborne, Fort Erie and Niagara Falls. This part-time float role requires availability on weekdays and Saturdays, with travel between centers a core part of the job.

You will greet patients, collect specimens, perform phlebotomy, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and conduct ECG tracings, preparing samples for transport.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsabilités

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

As aLab Patient Technicianyou will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time (Float)
Schedule: Various based on operational needs
Additional requirements: This is a part-time Float position. The successful candidate must be available to work Monday to Friday between 6:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., as well as Saturdays from 6:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The role requires flexibility to work at any of the five Patient Service Centres located in Welland, Port Colborne, Fort Erie, and Niagara Falls, with Saturday shifts scheduled at the Welland or Niagara Falls locations. A valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle are mandatory, as regular travel between sites is required and public transit is not available to support the travel demands of this position
