Clear Destination Inc. is seeking a Lab Patient Technician in Ontario to manage the specimen collection process, from greeting patients to preparing specimens for transport.

This part-time float role supports multiple locations and requires reliable transportation. You will perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings, with opportunities in medical/legal test collections.

Qualifications

• Must have completed an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Strong computer skills with typing speed at least 40 wpm.
• Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between locations.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, collect required information, explain the specimen collection process and ensure protocol compliance.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Collect special tests such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and document accordingly.
• Maintain client relationships, respond to inquiries, and follow up on requests.
• Enter patient demographics and requisition data into the system.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

Lab Patient Technician you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Part Time (Float)

Schedule: Various based on operational needs

Additional requirements: Successful candidate must have a reliable mode of transportation, as this is a float position requiring travel between locations. Candidates must be flexible with their availability and work hours. Previous phlebotomy experience is preferred

Your responsibilities will include:

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
