Job description

Under the direction of the Client Services Supervisor, the Data Processing Coordinator oversees laboratory data processing services daily, ensuring efficient and high-quality specimen processing. The role involves performing specimen processing and venipunctures in accordance with established procedures, maintaining a professional and customer-sensitive environment.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Patient Safety: Adhere to hospital and departmental precautions and procedures to ensure a safe environment, including:
    • Proper hand hygiene
    • Use of two patient identifiers
    • Effective communication during handoffs
    • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment
  2. Supervise daily laboratory data processing, ensuring efficiency and quality.
  3. Develop and maintain staff schedules and shift assignments in collaboration with the supervisor.
  4. Coordinate training and competency assessments for staff, maintaining documentation.
  5. Manage inventory of supplies and equipment needed for data processing.
  6. Participate in hiring processes and provide feedback on candidates.
  7. Serve as a resource on data processing procedures and protocols.
  8. Collaborate with hospital, laboratory staff, and external clients to resolve issues and communicate effectively.
  9. Assist in maintaining departmental procedures and training manuals.
  10. Help ensure compliance with regulations and accreditation standards.
  11. Provide coverage for Phlebotomy or Reference Lab departments as needed.
  12. Work occasional shifts outside regular hours based on departmental needs.
  13. Model safety policies and participate in ongoing education and meetings.
  14. Greet patients courteously and obtain blood specimens following procedures, ensuring proper labeling.
  15. Perform other assigned duties.

Additional requirements include adherence to C.A.R.E. Standards and annual competency demonstrations.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in specimen processing; hospital setting experience preferred.
