Job summary

Dynacare in Strathroy, Ontario is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to obtain quality blood samples and perform patient tests in line with our mission. You will contribute to a supportive team and ensure a positive patient experience while maintaining accuracy and safety.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, data entry for Ministry of Health requisitions, specimen handling, and adherence to SOPs. A Laboratory Assistant training program or MLPAO/CSMLS accreditation is strongly recommended; pay

Qualifications

• Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or MLAb assistance course with phlebotomy training.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Phlebotomy skills with ability to calm anxious patients during sample collection.
• Strong self-management in deadline-driven environments.
• Excellent attention to detail and clear English communication.

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience, engaging with patients about products and services.
• Accurately enter data, patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens using venipuncture techniques per Dynacare values.
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
• Ensure all documentation and specimens are ready for data entry and transport following SOPs.
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to quality metrics and regulatory compliance.

As a Laboratory Assistant, you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, as well as conducting other patient tests, all in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values. Working as part of a team, you are assisting in building a positive team environment and maintaining quality metrics. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness.

Status:

Permanent, Full-Time, Guaranteed 37 hours a week

Shift:

Day Shifts, 8:00 am – 4:15 pm; Monday – Friday and Saturday's as per the Collective Agreement

How YOU will make a difference:

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECG’s, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You have completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended
  Pay rate: $19.75 -$22.25 per hour
  The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
