Job summary

Prairie Diagnostic Services Inc. in Saskatoon is seeking a motivated Laboratory Assistant to join the Microbiology team for a two-year term. Typical hours are weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with potential evening and weekend shifts based on needs.

The role requires post-secondary coursework in life sciences or a related field; experience in a diagnostic, veterinary, medical, or research laboratory is an asset. Safety training and rabies vaccination will be provided as required.

Qualifications

The Opportunity:

Prairie Diagnostic Services Inc. is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory located at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. We provide diagnostic testing and expertise that supports animal health across Saskatchewan and beyond.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our Microbiology team for a two-year term.

Typical hours of work are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required based on operational needs.

The knowledge and skills required for this position are typically obtained through post-secondary coursework in life sciences or a related field and/or relevant work experience. Experience working in a diagnostic, veterinary, medical or research laboratory environment is considered an asset.

As part of the laboratory environment, employees may be exposed to biological specimens and unknown or potentially pathogenic microorganisms. Appropriate training, personal protective equipment and established safety protocols are provided. The successful candidate will also be provided with a rabies vaccination as required for the position.
