Job summary

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - FLOAT to obtain quality blood samples and perform tests with empathy and patient-centered service. This 12-month contract role involves day shifts across multiple locations in Ontario, with a guaranteed 35 hours per week.

You will support a positive team environment, handle data entry for Ministry of Health requisitions, and contribute to quality metrics while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Completed secondary school and a Laboratory Assistant training program or Medical Lab Assistant course with phlebotomy training.
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health.
• Demonstrate phlebotomy skill and manage anxious patients calmly.
• Proficiency in English, written and verbal.

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience engaging with our products and services.
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens using venipuncture techniques as per Dynacare’s values.
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
• Ensure specimens and documentation are complete and ready for data entry and transportation per SOPs.
• Maintain confidential information securely and contribute to quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators.

As a Laboratory Assistant - FLOAT, you are responsible for obtaining quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, as well as conducting other patient tests, all in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values. Working as part of a team, you are assisting in building a positive team environment and maintaining quality metrics. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness.

Status: Contract, Full-Time, 12 months (Guaranteed 35 hours per week)

Shift: Day Shifts, Monday – Saturday, between the hours of 6:45 am - 5:30 pm

Float Locations: Kakulu Rd, Kanata, Ottawa, Arnprior, Carleton Place, Bayshore, Barrhaven and Renfrew

• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values


• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECG’s, Holter Hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections


• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples


• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You have completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy


• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health


• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner


• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment


• Be extremely detail oriented


• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients


• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended

Pay rate: $21.00-$24.75 per hour

The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
