Job summary

LifeLabs in Canada is seeking a part-time Medical Lab Assistant in Belleville, Ontario. You will unpack and sort specimens, ensure patient information accuracy, and support testing workflows.

You will join a team focused on high-quality diagnostics, with flexible afternoon/evening shifts and weekend rotations; two positions available starting ASAP.

Qualifications

• Successful completion or graduation from a recognized MLA program is an asset.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, detail oriented and able to multi-task.
• Data entry and computer skills.
• Committed to following company practices, training, policies & procedures.
• Prior experience in laboratory operations or medical terminology is an asset.
• Ability to communicate with internal and external departments.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Unpack and sort a wide variety of incoming specimens from physicians, clinics, hospitals, and LifeLabs technicians.
• Confirm patient information on requisitions and specimens, resolve issues and perform data entry.
• Prepare, sort & separate specimens for technical analysis.
• Respond to client inquiries and cooperate with the logistics department.
• Train and orient new team members.
• Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Comply with laboratory safety and security policies and regulations.

As MedicalLab Assistantyou will play a key role in the testing and diagnostic process for a wide range of patients. LifeLabs also provides first aid training, continuing education opportunities, and excellent opportunities for career growth and advancement.

Status: Part Time

Shift: Various based on operational needs

Additional requirements: The position requires flexibility to work a variety of afternoon and evening shifts, with schedules ranging from 1:00 PM to 12:30 AM. Shift start times may be at 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM, 4:30 PM, 5:0 PM, 6:00 PM, or 7:00 PM, with corresponding end times based on operational needs. The role also includes participation in a weekend rotation, with shifts scheduled on Saturdays from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM and Sundays from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Candidates must be available to work a combination of these shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required

Your responsibilities will include:

• Unpack and sort a wide variety of incoming specimens received from sources including physicians, clinics, hospitals, and mobile LifeLabs technicians.
• Confirm the accuracy of all patient information on requisitions and specimen samples, resolve any problems or inaccuracies prior to testing, and perform required data entry.
• Prepare, sort & separate specimens for technical analysis.
• Respond to client inquiries & work in cooperation with the logistics department
• Train and orient new team members.
• Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Conduct all work in full compliance with all laboratory safety and security policies and regulations.

What you will bring to the role:

• Successful completion or graduation from a recognized Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) program is an asset.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Candidate must be detail oriented with the ability to focus, prioritize and multi-task.
• Data entry and computer skills.
• Committed to remaining current with company practices, training, policies & procedures
• Prior experience in laboratory operations or medical terminology an asset.
• Ability to communicate with other internal & external departments.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
