LifeLabs in Mississauga is seeking a Medical Lab Assistant for a part-time float role. You'll unpack and sort specimens, confirm patient information, and prepare samples for analysis while supporting client inquiries and collaborating with the logistics team.

Responsibilities

  • Unpack and sort a wide variety of incoming specimens from physicians, clinics, hospitals, and technicians.
  • Confirm accuracy of patient information on requisitions and specimens; resolve issues prior to testing and perform data entry.
  • Prepare, sort and separate specimens for technical analysis.
  • Respond to client inquiries and coordinate with logistics staff.
  • Train and orient new team members.
  • Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Comply with all safety and security policies and regulations.

Medical Lab Assistant you will play a key role in the testing and diagnostic process for a wide range of patients. LifeLabs also provides first aid training, continuing education opportunities, and excellent opportunities for career growth and advancement.

Status: Part Time Float

Shift: This is a float position, and shifts will be scheduled Monday through Sunday according to operational requirements. Operations run 24 hours a day

This vacancy is for an existing position.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Unpack and sort a wide variety of incoming specimens received from sources including physicians, clinics, hospitals, and mobile LifeLabs technicians.
  • Confirm the accuracy of all patient information on requisitions and specimen samples, resolve any problems or inaccuracies prior to testing, and perform required data entry.
  • Prepare, sort & separate specimens for technical analysis.
  • Respond to client inquiries & work in cooperation with the logistics department
  • Train and orient new team members.
  • Perform weekly and monthly maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Conduct all work in full compliance with all laboratory safety and security policies and regulations.
What you will bring to the role:
  • Successful completion or graduation from a recognized Medical Lab Assistant (MLA) program is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Candidate must be detail oriented with the ability to focus, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Data entry and computer skills.
  • Committed to remaining current with company practices, training, policies & procedures
  • Prior experience in laboratory operations or medical terminology an asset.
  • Ability to communicate with other internal & external departments.
  • Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.
