City Experiences is seeking a Kitchen Steward for our City Cruises operation in Gananoque.

*Please note this is a seasonal/contract position.

About You:

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

About the Opportunity:

The Kitchen Steward aids the team in the prompt preparation of vessel canteen, group tour and Dockside market menu items. Kitchen Stewards will be responsible for the daily stocking and restocking of any items required by above service areas. Crew member will assist with general kitchen operations including but not limited to the receiving and storing of provisions, organization & cleanliness of stock areas, Dockside Restaurant menu preparation and continued vessel canteen replenishment. The successful candidate will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience by way of exceptional care for food & beverage, being respectful of decisions made by direct supervisors, be favorably viewed by their peers and be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide amazing hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Reports to work on time and for all scheduled shifts, clocking in and out appropriately, in conjunction with managing personal break time appropriately.
  • Understands all policies and procedures relating to the crew’s role within the company.
  • Maintains uniform in conjunction with a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Knowledgeable of City Cruises Gananoque vessel cruising schedule and appropriate menu offerings.
  • Responsible for the daily and timely distribution of all canteen, group tour, and Dockside Market food & beverage menu items.
  • Monitor par-levels for all daily made fresh menu items, ensuring appropriate stock levels are made and maintained as set out by Kitchen Supervisors.
  • Assist in the receiving of and organization of stock while ensuring all food handling & safety principles are followed. Including but not limited to; stock rotation, temperature checks of perishable products, equipment temperature logs and good hand washing practice.
  • Operate dish machine; ensuring all dishes are cleaned, dried, organized, and stored appropriately.
  • Assist kitchen team by ensuring dishwasher is in proper working order, including chemical refilling, temperature checks and daily cleaning.
  • Stock supplies such as food and utensils in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, and buffets or food stations.
  • Monitor stock levels for required menu ingredients, reporting to Kitchen Supervisor when last stock is getting low.
  • May be responsible for assisting kitchen team with daily line preparatory items, including but not limited to line fridge setup, baking pastries, chopping vegetables, butchering meat, or preparing sauces.
  • Assist in routine cleaning and sanitization of kitchen, including daily cleaning of equipment, preparation stations, stock rooms, staff areas, staff washrooms, mopping floors and completion of all daily & weekly checklists.
  • Maintain safety of kitchen and service areas: daily use of kitchen mats, safe removal of oil, immediate removal of excess garbage & recycling, maintaining clear pathways to fire extinguishers and electrical panels.
  • Assist with food & beverage deliveries or pickups for daily or catering operations.
  • Any other duties as assigned by department supervisor or manager on duty.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • O.S.S.D. or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • Minimum one (1) year of Kitchen experience preferred.
  • Food Handlers Certification.
  • Secondary language considered an asset.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and self-directed personality essential.
  • Will be closely supervised; accepts all training and guidance on a continuous basis. Passes along best practices and techniques to fellow crew members.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of another language in addition to English is an asset.
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers.
  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others.
  • The nature of the work may be strenuous. Will work for extended periods of time in any weather condition without sitting.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Will be required to be available for work on all weekends during July & August including major holidays.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms).
  • Non-slip footwear is required to ensure safety in the workplace. Crew members must wear appropriate non-slip shoes during shifts.
  • If required, wear additional assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
