BGC East Scarborough is seeking an experienced Kitchen Sous Chef to join our food services team in Toronto, Ontario. The role focuses on planning, preparing and distributing meals for Second Harvest while maintaining high standards for safety and quality.
The ideal candidate holds a Food Services Management or Culinary Arts credential, with at least two years of relevant experience and current food safety certification.

BGC East Scarborough is currently seeking an experienced Kitchen Sous Chef to join our food services team. The ideal candidate is passionate about delivering excellent food services, possesses strong organization and multi-tasking skills; and has the ability to effectively work independently and in a team with proven reliability and trustworthiness. The Kitchen Chef is responsible for executing day-to-day food planning, preparation, production, and storing of meals for distribution by Second Harvest. The Chef will support the food services team in the production of meals for other programs.
Plan and prepare the target number of meals for distribution by Second Harvest
Secure ingredients and food items for meals distributed by Second Harvest
Support the food services team in preparing the menu items for other programs
Work collaboratively with the Food Services Coordinator and the Kitchen Chef Supervisor to ensure that all production tasks are completed in a timely manner and meet the standards and requirements mandated by all the governing bodies
Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Act, local health and safety codes, and company safety/security policies and procedures
Ensure the organization’s food handling protocols are followed
Ensure the kitchen spaces and equipment are cleaned and organized at all times meeting standards set by Toronto Public Health, Toronto Children’s Services and the Ministry of Education
Supervise placement/co-op students, or volunteers, as needed
Conduct evaluation of placement/co-op students or volunteers, as needed
Collaborate with the Coordinator and Supervisor to order materials, supplies, equipment, ingredients based on needs
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Food Services Management, Culinary Arts or related fields
Minimum 2 years’ experience of culinary preparation/food services management
Current Advanced Food Safety Training and Food Handler Certificate
Satisfactory Criminal Reference Check & Vulnerable Sector Screening
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to quality food services operation, food preparation, production, handling, quality and storage, of hot and cold food items
Experience using MS Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
Access to a personal vehicle preferred
Able to lift load and unload food items/supplies
Work in a fast paced, and high temperature setting
May need to travel between program sites
Hours of Work: 25 hours per week
Job Status: Part Time Hourly Base

Pay Rate-$20-$22 per hour
Expected start date: Immediately
