Job Description:
Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday 8:30AM - 4:30PM
Accountabilities:
Role Specific Responsibilities
- Clean all dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, and pans, in accordance with Public Health standards
- Perform cleaning duties in the dining room areas after each meal and remove garbage and place in appropriate collection bin.
- Assist on-duty cook(s) as required.
- Advise Support Services Manager when cleaning supplies are needed.
- Follow work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
- Late shift kitchen staff must ensure that doors are locked, and all electrical appliances and lights are turned off at end of shift; kitchen keys are to be returned to Front Desk at the end of the shift and signed back in.
- Ensure kitchen floor and dishwashing area are cleaned as per policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all tasks are completed, and all work areas are clean prior to completion of shift
- As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Support Services Manager
Health and Safety
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Work closely with security, identifying any safety and security needs.
- Responsible for the following, work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, use personal prescribed safety equipment and clothing as directed by the employer, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness.
- Responsible to follow through on all safety and security procedures (including fire) as outlined in the policy and procedures manual.
- Maintain sanitation and proper health, and safety standards of hygiene and safe handling of foods while performing duties.
- Perform other position related duties as required.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT:
Internal :
- Work cooperatively with staff from various Centre of Hope departments.
- Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness, changes in policies and procedures, and in-service training.
External:
MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY :
- This position reports directly to the Support Services Manager or designate.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Ability to lift/move objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a standing position for long periods of time.
Normal hours of work – may vary as per operational requirements and responsibilities and includes a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable.
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completed a minimum of Grade 10.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training preferred.
- Good knowledge of nutrition and safe food handling certification is required.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- Up to 3 months of prior related experience, including experience operating an industrial dishwasher.
- Experience in a residential facility is an asset.
- Develop an understanding and support of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment when making decisions.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; and to deal with people in a pleasant, professional, and responsible manner.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated and disciplined.
- Ability to work independently.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- The offer of employment is conditional on providing written confirmation from a health care provider that you have completed a two-step Tuberculosis Skin Test screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $18.47 to $18.47 with a maximum of $18.47.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
