Job description

Are you passionate about sustainable and locally sourced food? What about advocating for the health of our watershed and providing education opportunities about invasive plant species? We’re looking for a passionate individual who can help make our local branch shine!

Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook is currently seeking a dynamic and organized individual who is willing to take the reins of three programs, Apple Capture (Kimberley and Cranbrook), Spooner Park (Cranbrook), and Marysville Eco Park (Kimberley). If you are interested, we would love to hear from you!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the successful operation of the Apple Capture Program as well as coordinating events at Spooner Park, and Marysville Eco Park.

Project Management

  • Coordinate and oversee the Apple Capture Project in Kimberley and Cranbrook by facilitating related events based on fruit ripening, mainly between August – October, with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ensure all fruit mash is properly stored, composted, and/or delivered to farmers as feed for their livestock.
  • Continue communication with the Food Recovery Programs to ensure there is limited waste, use of space, and storage of apples.
  • Plan/organize one annual pruning workshop (in both Kimberley and Cranbrook) related to the project.
  • Build relationships with and collaborate with businesses/organizations to host group apple pick and press events as team building for staff.

Coordinate and oversee events at Spooner Park in Cranbrook by:

  • Continuing Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook’s presence through organized public events such as invasive weed pulls and one annual event during the Spirit of the Rockies Festival focused on water science programming.
  • Building relationships with Mount Baker School Outdoors class currently being led by Leigh Cormier.
  • Building relationships with the City of Cranbrook to direct future park efforts.

Coordinate and oversee events at Marysville Eco Park Project in Kimberley by:

  • Organizing volunteer events which include at least one weed pull event and four maintenance activities.

Systems Management

  • Ensure project equipment and platforms function properly, are updated regularly, and are in good working order.
  • Maintain and ensure all related equipment is in good working order and kept secure.
  • Communicate with tool share users when they have questions or need assistance.
  • Work on building/expanding the Tool Share program.
  • Maintain/update tree share lists.

Additional Management

  • Engage in occasional meetings and social events.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise the necessary staff, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Assist the Communications and Fundraising Coordinator with social media and website promotional content, including taking photographs/videos at activities.
  • Ensure all safety measures are in place and are being followed by staff/contractors, volunteers, and the public.
  • Create and deliver metrics, reports, photos and/or videos related to project activities.
  • Ensure grant deliverables are understood and met in a timely manner.
  • Ensure activities are coordinated with like-minded organizations when possible.
  • Work with the Branch Manager to create an annual budget.

DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the Wildsight Kimberley Cranbrook organization mission and mandate.
  • Passion for local food/community sustainability.
  • Incredible self-motivation, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A strong ability to develop team relationships with staff, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Google Drive.
  • A strong community connection.
  • Post-secondary education and/or relevant experience in a related field such as Sustainable Food Systems, Business/Marketing, Environmental Sciences, Event Planning, and Management.
  • Experience in personnel management, budgeting, operations management, working with multiple stakeholder groups/public, and experience in retail and/or other customer service.

REQUIREMENTS

  • First Aid/CPR certification or commitment to certify.
  • Access to a computer and internet.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle capable of transporting equipment and fruit (a truck or van is best, but an SUV works well). Mileage reimbursed.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

Based from a home office and/or our Kimberley shared office, the annual contract is for a total of 300 hours ranging 5-25 hrs per week between June – October, and 0-5 hrs per week between November – May. Please note September is the most hour-intensive month.
