To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. Learn more.

Kids & Youth Worker (CSJ)

WORKWEEK: Flexible (TBD)

TERM: Fixed Term Contract

PERIOD: 8 weeks

SALARY: $17.60 / HOUR, hourly for 35 hours per week

OVERVIEW: The Kids & Youth Worker reports to the Campus Pastors and provides support for summer activities, programs, and ongoing ministry for kids & youth, aligned with community needs and interests. The main role is to serve as a mentor, leading, motivating, and role-modeling for kids/youth in active summer programs. Must be capable of managing large groups of children and youth (from primary school through high school) in various programs.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-motivated, receptive to correction, and a team builder
  • Ability to communicate with passion, clarity, and enthusiasm
  • Willing to learn new programs & procedures as needed
  • Known for flexibility and attention to detail

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize, and anticipate program & youth needs
  • Willingness to maintain cleanliness, organization, and upkeep
  • Effective communication with children/youth
  • Ability to assist in teaching or leading activities
  • Receptive to supervision and guidance
  • Experience working with children/youth in group settings
  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and eager to learn
  • Knowledge of audio & presentation software is an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The worker’s main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Develop & Run Kids Programs (35%)
  • Collaborate with volunteers in programs
  • Clean-up after programs and maintain facilities (including washrooms)
  • Perform tasks related to Lifecentre Kids programs as directed by Campus Pastors
  • Plan and execute youth and community events
  • Organize and run outdoor 'fun days'
  • Travel to various city locations for community events
  1. Assist the Pastoral Staff with other duties (15%)
  • Co-create service plans and events for Sunday services
  • Support various ministry areas including Sunday services
  • Attend bi-monthly staff and weekly campus meetings
  1. General Building Maintenance & Landscaping (15%)
  • Perform cleaning and sanitization tasks
  • Manage recycling and garbage disposal
  • Assist with building maintenance, repairs, and painting
  • Maintain landscaping (mowing, flowerbeds, parking lot)
  • Set up rooms, move, and assemble furniture
  • Secure the building after events
