To be eligible, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student's time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market. Learn more.

Kids & Youth Worker (CSJ)

LOCATION: Kanata Campus

WORKWEEK: Flexible (TBD)

TERM: Fixed Term Contract

PERIOD: 8 weeks

SALARY: $17.92 / HOUR, hourly for 32 hours per week

OVERVIEW: The Kids & Youth Worker reports to the Campus Pastor and will work alongside the Pastoral Staff to develop summer youth programs for kids & youth that are aligned with community needs and interests. The main role is to serve as a mentor, leading, motivating, and role-modeling to youth in active summer programs. Must be capable of managing large groups of children and youth (primary school through high school) in various settings.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-motivated, receptive to feedback, and a team player
  • Ability to communicate with passion, clarity, and enthusiasm
  • Willingness to learn new programs & procedures as needed
  • Flexible, detail-oriented, and attentive

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Self-motivated, able to prioritize, and anticipate program & youth needs
  • Willing to maintain cleanliness and organization
  • Effective in working and communicating with children/youth
  • Ability to assist in teaching or leading activities
  • Receptive to supervision and guidance
  • Experience working with children/youth in group settings
  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, patient, and eager to learn
  • Knowledge of audio & presentation software is an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop & Run Kids Programs (35%)

  • Coordinate with volunteers in programs
  • Clean-up of programs and facilities (including washrooms)
  • Assist with planning and executing youth and community events
  • Organize outdoor 'fun days'
  • Travel to various city locations for community events

2. Support Pastoral Staff (15%)

  • Assist in creating service plans and events for Sunday services
  • Support various ministry activities, including Sunday services
  • Attend bi-monthly staff and weekly campus meetings

3. General Building Maintenance & Landscaping (15%)

  • Clean and sanitize rooms, windows, and washrooms
  • Manage recycling and garbage
  • Perform minor repairs, painting, and maintenance projects
  • Maintain landscaping (mowing, flowerbeds, parking lot)
  • Set up rooms, move and assemble furniture
  • Secure the building after events
