The Position
The Key Account Manager (KAM) - Avian participates in a team selling environment, providing selected key customers with a primary point of contact within Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health. In this capacity, the KAM is responsible for their assigned key accounts. This role involves extensive collaboration and communication with team members including Technical Service Veterinarians, Business Unit Directors, Coordinators, Marketing, and others. The KAM is tasked with driving sales, market share, and profitability growth, and will develop, defend, and execute Customer Business Plans.
Responsibilities
- Customer Orientation : Develops and shares a long-term vision for the customer's organization to help make their business successful. Identifies customer pressures, plans, and problems to find mutual value opportunities. Co-creates solutions addressing customer needs and communicates value effectively. Engages customers using effective questioning to understand their needs and builds trust.
- Business Acumen : Demonstrates thorough understanding of industry and market dynamics, customer imperatives, and competitive positioning. Incorporates business management principles and customer operating models into strategic planning. Conducts business analysis, scenario planning, and risk assessments to identify mutual opportunities. Communicates investment requirements, ROI, and conducts regular business reviews.
- Strategic Focus : Assesses customer potential and defines strategic growth plans. Develops and communicates Boehringer Ingelheim's vision, strategy, and goals for the customer, differentiating from competitors. Regularly reviews performance and adjusts plans for alignment.
- Effective Execution : Creates and evolves customer business plans with clear goals, KPIs, and milestones. Defines action plans and leads cross-functional teams to achieve results. Tracks performance metrics and updates plans as needed.
- Relationship Management : Builds and evaluates customer relationships, develops partnership goals, and fosters rapport through active listening and empathy. Establishes networks outside the company to facilitate goal achievement. Leads joint business reviews and communicates customer feedback internally.
- Vaccination Technology and Services : Implements Vaccination Technology and Services (VTS) to support customers with information, equipment, and vaccination monitoring based on their needs.
- Compliance : Conducts all business in accordance with regulations and company guidelines, maintaining high ethical standards and protecting company reputation.
This position is field-based. Employees must reside in the assigned region to be close to customers.
Requirements
- University Degree in relevant fields (Agriculture, Science, Business MBA, MSc, DVM considered an asset)
- Experience in production economics is an asset
- Minimum 5 years of sales or relevant marketing/business experience within the avian industry
- Ability to adapt quickly and resiliently in a changing environment
- Strong computer skills and data analysis capabilities
- Proven problem-solving and solution creation skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Exceptional listening skills
- Ability to travel within Canada, the USA, and globally (up to 50%)
