Job summary

Laurus is seeking an enthusiastic Karate Instructor to lead a weekly after-school program for Kindergarten to Grade 4 at Kells Academy in NDG, Montreal. The class runs Thursdays, 3:10 p.m.–4:10 p.m., starting September 24, 2026, for 9 weeks.

You will teach basic karate, promote respect, focus and coordination, and create a safe, inclusive, age-appropriate environment that keeps children engaged and active.

Qualifications

• Experience practicing and/or teaching karate or another relevant martial art.
• Strong communication and group-management skills.
• Energetic, patient, dependable, and comfortable working with younger children.
• Ability to create an inclusive and encouraging learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead a structured one-hour karate class each week.
• Teach age-appropriate karate fundamentals, including basic stances, movements, techniques, and coordination exercises.
• Adapt activities to accommodate children of different ages, abilities, and experience levels.
• Incorporate games and engaging activities to keep younger participants motivated and involved.
• Promote values such as respect, self-control, perseverance, confidence, and teamwork.
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment throughout each session.
• Manage the group effectively and encourage positive participation.
• Ensure activities and techniques are appropriate for an elementary-school after-school setting.

Position Overview

The instructor will introduce students to the fundamentals of karate in a safe, positive, age-appropriate, and fun environment. The program should help children develop coordination, confidence, focus, discipline, and respect while keeping them active and engaged.
