Job description

The Peace River School Division invites applications for a Full-Time (1.00 f.t.e.) K-6 Indigenous Education Program Coordinator. This position will be based at the Peace River School Division's Central Operations Building located in Grimshaw, Alberta. Our Division serves approximately 3000 students in 20 schools in the Red Earth Creek, Peace River, Manning, Fairview, and Cleardale areas of Northwest Alberta.

The successful candidate will commence work on August 27, 2025, and will be directly responsible to the Deputy Superintendent.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating all aspects of K-6 programming for Indigenous students within the division;
  • Coordinating the systematic identification of Indigenous students and the ongoing monitoring and support of their academic achievement in core curricular areas;
  • Collaborating with the Grades 7-12 Indigenous Education Program Coordinator to coordinate all aspects of K-6 Indigenous programming within the division;
  • Collaborating with other PRSD Learning Coordinators to ensure a consistent approach to academic achievement, assessment, and data collection;
  • Supporting K-6 teachers and other school-based staff in building a Collaborative Response Model (CRM) approach to delivery of educational services;
  • Fostering effective use of PRSD assessments in grades 1 to 6 classes to ensure responsive teaching within the division's CRM focus;
  • Coordinating and supporting school administrators' efforts to enhance academic success for Indigenous learners;
  • Supporting teachers and other school-based staff in enhancing their “Assessment Literacy” and ensuring widespread use of formative assessment practices in their classrooms;
  • Supporting K-6 teachers in adopting instructional and assessment practices that effectively address Indigenous learner needs in an inclusive education setting;
  • Collaborating with multiple partners (e.g., NRLC, AAC, ATA PD Committee) to provide professional learning opportunities for teachers in literacy education to support Indigenous learners;
  • Working with teachers and other school-based staff through mentoring, coaching, and modeling to build site-based capacity in leading learning;
  • Promoting participation in professional development opportunities to build foundational knowledge and cultural proficiency as outlined in the new Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and Leadership Quality Standard (LQS);
  • Working with other Learning Services Team members to deliver the division's Teacher Mentorship program for new teachers;
  • Providing information sessions to staff and parents regarding important programs and initiatives;
  • Partnering with school and community regarding education programs and supports for Indigenous learners;
  • Empowering school administrators to “lead the learning” in their schools;
  • Fostering a culture of “data-informed” decision-making to ensure effective instructional and assessment strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Required qualifications include:
  • Bachelor of Education Degree with specialization in Literacy Education;
  • A minimum of 10 years of successful teaching experience in primary and elementary education.

Assets include:

  • A Master of Education degree in Literacy Education or related area;
  • Training and/or experience in coaching;
  • Training and/or experience with the Collaborative Response mindset;
  • Experience in organizing and delivering engaging PD for staff;
  • Administrative/leadership experience.

Requirements for Employment:

  • Must hold or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate;
  • Provide a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

This position falls under the collective agreement between the Alberta Teachers' Association and the Peace River School Division.

Annual Salary Range:

$62,702 to $105,996 (dependent on experience and education in accordance with the collective agreement).
