Full Job Description

We are seeking an immediate hire for a power system engineer. The role requires a bachelor's degree and involves supporting all aspects of transmission studies, including power flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and other power system analyses. Familiarity with PSS/E or TARA is preferred. Candidates with a Master's or Ph.D. in Power Systems will be given preference. Relocation assistance is available.

Responsibilities

1. Perform power system analysis for transmission systems of 138 kV and above, including power flow, voltage stability, transient stability, and short circuit analyses.
2. Prepare steady state, short circuit, and dynamic models.
3. Support senior engineers in preparing technical reports.
4. Provide technical consultations and oversee the process of new interconnection requests throughout the planning cycle.
5. Conduct and review system impact studies, analyzing steady-state load flow and transient stability performance, reactive planning, Load Interconnection studies, and mitigation planning.
6. Use PSS/E and TARA to conduct voltage ride-through and critical clearing time analyses for generator interconnection studies related to renewable energy projects.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 2 years of power systems engineering experience for junior positions.
• Knowledge of electric power systems, including synchronous generators, motors, power electronic inverters, wind turbines, and solar energy systems.
• Experience with transmission studies involving power flow, voltage stability, and related analyses.
• Proficiency with PSS/E, TARA, or DSA tools.
• Background in static and dynamic modeling of power system components such as HVDC, VSC, Static Var Compensators, STATCOM, and Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors in PSS/E or DSA tools.
• Model development in PSS/E, IPLAN, and/or Python programming skills are advantageous.
• Understanding of transmission system reliability and interconnection processes.
• Basic knowledge of substation layout, protection, and control systems.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
