Job summary

North American Stamping Group in Woodstock, Ontario, is hiring a Junior Tool & Die Technician to join our production team. Primary focus is maintaining and repairing tooling equipment and supporting tooling projects.

Regular hours are 7:00am to 3:30pm. On-the-job training provided; safety and quality are emphasized. This role offers a full benefits package and opportunities to grow within a Tier II automotive supplier.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to operate basic manual machine tools such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses.

Position summary:

The maintenance technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing plant production equipment, support equipment and building related assets. Primary duty is to ensure that all related equipment is always ready to run at peak efficiency and to facilitate preventative, predictive and general maintenance and complete repairs when deficiencies are found. Works with engineering, production and quality departments to support internal and external customers.

The position duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Assist licensed Toolmakers with die assembly, disassembly, cleaning, and maintenance.
• Prepare tooling components for fitting, polishing, and spotting.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness of the toolroom, benches, and storage areas.
• Transport tools, components, and materials between workstations as required.
• Operate basic manual machines such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses.
• Perform rough machining, deburring, and basic surface finishing under supervision.
• Measure components using calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to verify dimensions.
• Assist with cutting, fitting, and modifying steel components as directed by senior Toolmakers.
• Support routine tool maintenance schedules — cleaning dies, replacing wear components, and lubricating moving parts.
• Record tool conditions and report damage or wear to supervisors promptly.
• Assist with changeovers and setup for production trials when required.
• Prepare die components for assembly, including alignment, spotting, and tryout assistance.
• Help install springs, dowels, and fasteners in accordance with tool drawings or supervisor direction.
• Support tool build projects by performing repetitive or secondary assembly tasks.
• Follow established work instructions and safety procedures.
• Complete inspection sheets and data entries for tool components.
• Assist in documenting tool modifications and part tracking for engineering
• Maintain toolroom supplies and inventory (e.g., cutters, abrasives, hardware).
• Support loading/unloading of tooling for shipment or repair.
• Perform general housekeeping and 5S activities in the department.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and training.

Qualifications we are looking for include, but are not limited to:

• Previous experience in a manufacturing or toolroom environment is an asset, but not mandatory; on-the-job training will be provided.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in safe material handling practices
• Ability to operate basic manual machine tools such as mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses.
• Familiarity with measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and basic inspection techniques.
• Basic machining, deburring, polishing, and fitting skills under supervision.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures for tooling and dies is an advantage. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to follow written instructions, engineering drawings, and safety procedures.
• Willingness to learn and work closely with licensed Toolmakers and other team members.
• Team player with a proactive approach to organization, cleanliness, and continuous improvement.
• Basic computer skills for entering data and completing documentation.
